IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM

District Wide Community Members and Staff

Things You Appreciate

Great staff and leadership

The leadership and staff at North Branch Area Public Schools is caring and helpful. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into starting another school year.

I appreciate that improvements are being made even though the bond failed

It's important to keep up on our schools and advance and try new things, now we just need the community to get on board.

Teachers

We work with great teachers that try their best each and every day. I don't know a teacher that doesn't try to do their job with integrity.

Great programs for students and families

The school district continues to provide new programs and improve existing programs despite budget challenges.

District grounds look better than they have in years

The grounds department is doing a great job. We are utilizing irrigation, cutting on a regular basis, trimming along buildings and fence lines. Taking pride in how our grounds look. Well done by those involved.

Your Concerns

Keeping our classroom sizes small

Class sizes seem bigger than previous years.

My concerns for the Ed Center

The point of entry has too many interruptions for the individuals trying to do a job and manage the people that come in and out of the building. We are in charge of handling our own work load which often sits undone, in addition to managing those coming and going.

Roll out of so many new initiatives

It gets to be too much. Too much is being handed to teachers that have been handled differently in the past. "Rules" and expectations are changed so often we don't know which rule we should be following now.

Having enough staff

Long hours put in by existing staff members; having enough coverage each day.

Aging facilities

The district's bond referendum, which would have made major improvements to the school district, failed. Other school districts are able to get these things approved by a supportive community. I am concerned the community's failure to support our schools will cause families to try other options.

Additional School Experiences

Relaxed lunch period

At SR, students have 20 minutes to eat. They deserve some down time during the day to talk and be social with their friends. 20 minutes is not enough time to go through a line to get food and then eat.

Additional gym space

We don't have enough! We need space for the growing number of students involved in activities.

Improved facilities

School spaces need to keep up with changes in education. Environment has a big impact on student learning. The improvements to the media centers last year were a good start, but there is much more needed.

Smaller class size

Class size is high. Opportunities are limited. Resources are limited.

Return vocational educational courses

Vocational courses are so important to many kids. Hands on learning and doing. Preparation for work skills after high school for a large population of our students is a must. Many do not attend college, junior college or vo-tech.
