Class sizes are too large with the new reading program we have. This program is meant for the teacher to have more time to work with small groups and one on one with students but with the size of the classes we currently have that is impossible or extremely difficult to accomplish.
School lunch time
Again this year my kids are telling me how short their lunch time is. By the time they sit to eat, lunch is practically over. I recognize that their days are filled with valuable lessons, specials, and recess (all things I am glad about,) but being made to eat quickly isn't ideal.
Keeping schools secure from intruders
It is important for me to send my child to a place I know she will be cared for and kept safe to the very best ability of teachers and staff.
Lack of cultural opportunities
Where are the cultural opportunities that I hear elementary children from other districts have? Artists in residence, field trips, drama/band class, wilderness exploration, etc. - we have lots of local resources to tap into but seem to be ignoring them.
Field trips and school programs seem almost non-existent
My kids have never gone on a field trip for school. Maybe it's not in budget, but most parents would be willing to pay for their child's portion of bus fee to go to a place such as Como zoo (free). Many elementary schools do programs for grandparents day, holiday, etc. Would like to see more programs.
